About GFA2013(English)

GOLDEN FUTURE ALBANIA
“Empowerment Today for a Brighter Tomorrow”

WHO WE ARE:

Golden Future Albania (GFA)  http://goldenfuturealbania.blogspot.ca is a community organization of 40+ volunteer members headquartered in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Our team consists of Canadian nationals of various backgrounds, the majority of whom are of Albanian heritage and came to Canada as young teens.
Our organization and outreach program will be modeled after The University of Windsor's highly successful Golden Future South Africa Project http://goldenfuture.ca/ founded by Gerjon (Gary) Kalaci, and which is now in its fifth year. Gary came to Canada in 2000 at age 17, and on April 25, 2012, he won The Rising Star award at the Windsor Essex Region Chamber of Commerce business excellence awards. http://www.windsorstar.com/business/Young+entrepreneurs+celebrated+Windsor+Essex+Business+Excellence+Awards/6520867/story.html#ixzz1tQZLB8eB

OVERALL GOALS OF GOLDEN FUTURE ALBANIA (GFA):

Our pilot project will improve the lives of high school students in an impoverished community in/near Tirana, Albania. Albania’s capital, Tirana, has experienced much internal migration from less developed regions of the country.  As a result, Tirana’s population has mushroomed dramatically over the last 15 years making services like education difficult.  Schools are both crowded and underserviced.
GFA will help foster and promote, in tandem with its onsite partner(s), sustainable community change. The pilot project will simultaneously allow its volunteer participants to act as humanitarians, practise social responsibility, and perpetuate positive growth in a developing nation.
To do this, our project pilot team will create and implement a 2-week Outreach Program consisting of 4 modules; approximately 25 of our team members will launch the project onsite in Albania, May 2013.
The team will also collaborate with a local NGO, university, government bodies,  social service organization, etc. (TBD) to continue with the cultivation process post our teams’ return.  Our team will provide the intensive two weeks of modules and activities while our onsite partner(s) will ensure year-long continuity of our project and goals.

OUR PROJECT WILL FOSTER AND PROMOTE SUSTAINABLE CHANGE BY:

* Building self-esteem and self-empowerment;
* Increasing personal health awareness;
* Promoting economic growth and sustainability;
* Encouraging entrepreneurial thinking and providing data on available grants/loans;
* Raising awareness of STDs, unwanted pregnancies and children left at orphanages; and,
* Fostering social responsibility and community development initiatives.

4 ONSITE PROJECT MODULES:

1. The Life Skills Module: The Life Skills Module will focus on gender equality, selfempowerment, self-esteem, domestic violence, nutrition, and other important issues to be indentified in our research.

2. The Health Module: The Health Module will focus on basic self-hygiene education, awareness of STDs , safe-sex procedures, and unwanted pregnancies and other important issues to be indentified in our research.

3. The Education Module: The Education Module will focus on the pursuit of higher education. Students will be encouraged to keep learning with information on scholarships, grants and programs of interest, and through interactive discussions on opportunities both in Albania and abroad.

4. The Micro-Enterprise Module: The Micro-Enterprise Module will focus on small businesses in the community. This group will provide businesses with information on business expansion and strategy.  At the high school, this team will provide basic steps and guidelines to pursue a new start-up venture. The micro-enterprise group will also work with small community businesses in addition to their work at the high school.
To move their lives forward, GFA will provide Albanian high-school students with success strategies and skills such as tangential and out-of-the-box thinking.
